The festival highlights the agricultural, historical and cultural heritage of the South Burnett region focusing on the main local agricultural crop – The Avocado. Event Background

The Blackbutt Avocado Festival is the result of the success of the Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Festival (BBBF) established in September 2009 and was funded and managed by a volunteer sub-committee of the Blackbutt and Benarkin Garden Club Inc and has grown consistently in participants and economic contribution to the community for several years.

The Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Festival was subsequently incorporated in October 2010. In 2016, the festival was called the Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt Avocado Festival. As a result of consultation and discussion with the executive, local businesses and the community, the festival is now known as the Blackbutt Avocado Festival. It is one of the events run by the Festival committee under the overall marketing brand of Bloomin' Beautiful Blackbutt – Gateway to the South Burnett.

They're full of good fats, we love them smashed, and they make guac rock!

Whether you're Team Hass or Team Shepherd, there's no denying that Aussies love their avocados, and the town of Blackbutt in the South Burnett region of Queensland is throwing a festival in honour of our favourite green friends.

The Blackbutt Avocado Festival will be held on Saturday 14 September and visitors can take part in a number of avo games, including the avo roll ($1000 first prize), avo toss, avo golf, guess the variety (there are 14 of them!), avo juggling and the avo strongman/woman contest and in a world first - Rod Benson Skydiving Team will jump from a plane at 1,500meters and land on an avocado target in the centre of the Blackbutt Showgrounds.

For those more interested in eating them, there will be a number of cooking demonstrations, a guacamole making competition, avocado growing workshops, as well as plant sales and plenty of avocados available for purchase. Try an Avo-go-go smoothie or indulge in a tequila inspired Avocado Sunrise cocktail at the Avo-BAR-do.

Come dressed in your best "avocado" inspired costume to win big prizes. Meet Alvin the Avocado.

There will also be over 100 market stalls, food vendors, a street parade, children's activities, live entertainment and a woodchop demonstrations.

You'll be green with envy if you miss it!

How to co-create shared value

Michael Porter first introduced the idea of shared value creation. For him shared value meant that brands would prioritise the needs of the community but not at the cost of the business itself. In many cases, this is the foundation of sponsorship.
