Full Horizon Festival Program Out Now

There's just 18 days to go until the first Horizon Sunshine Coast festival of arts and culture ignites the region with fun, colour, music, dance, art, creativity, film and more.

The Horizon highlights program is out now, featuring a taste of what's on offer during the festival.

Copies of the program will be available council libraries and offices, visitor information centres, cafés, University of the Sunshine Coast, galleries, music venues and many other locations across the Coast.

Horizon kicks off on Friday, September 2 in Caloundra with Horizon Ignites from 5-9.30pm. Come along to enjoy a dynamic cultural experience featuring flamenco performance, street art, projections, interactive art displays, laneway bar, food and market stalls plus the innovative Pod Lounge in full swing with the sweet sounds of Dear Willow, while PocketLove and Ayla are live on stage.

The Caloundra Film Festival also launches on Friday, September 2 with the world premiere of Thicker Than Water, an incredible film by local producer and actor Madeleine Kennedy.

The film stars Pete Murray, who will be in town to launch the film.

So, while you're in Caloundra for Horizon Ignites, pop over to The Events Centre from 5.30pm to meet the stars of the film Madeleine Kennedy, Pete Murray, Anthony Brandon Wong and Ellie Popov.

The fun continues in Nambour on Saturday, September 3 with Colour the Street from 4-8.30pm.

A dynamic urban block party featuring 3D chalk art, live music, Indigenous dance, slam poetry and spoken word, street theatre, projections, lanterns, puppetry, laser light show and a visual arts exhibition in the Old Ambulance Station. Come along and participate in art projects, pavement art, workshops, dance and circus skills and enjoy the onsite food stalls and street bar experience.

Other highlights of the festival program include REMIX, Maroochy Music and Visual Arts Festival, Sunshine Coast International Readers and Writers Festival, unFramed Coolum and many more.

Over the 10-day festival there are more than 220 events, exhibitions and workshops to enjoy. Some workshops require bookings so make sure you don't miss out – head to the Horizon website now to secure your place.

The festival will come to a close in Coolum on Sunday, September 11 with a special Dawn Awakening ceremony from 5-6.15am.

A ceremonial celebration of the awakening of a new dawn, the stories of our First Nations Peoples and their spiritual ancestors told through music, dance, song and spoken word.

Located in the serene and pristine environment of Stumers Creek. Bush foods, billy tea and coffee will be available for purchase. BYO chair/beach mat.
