Up to 500 riders are expected to ascend on the Sunshine Coast for this challenging event which runs over 3 days, 361km and includes over 5,340m of climbing.
Based in Cotton Tree, the 3-day Velothon hits the Coast 14 - 16 July. Each morning the riders set off from a unique Sunshine Coast location with Saturday 15 July seeing the start line popping up at Caloundra's iconic Moffat Beach. To celebrate this significant occasion the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce and Sunshine Coast Council have got together and created the FREE MOFFAT BEACH BIG BREAKFAST & KIDDIE COMMANDO COURSE.
Collaborating with a multitude of amazing local businesses including The Pocket, Moffat Beach Brewing Co, BRKFST and HIT Bikes The organizers are not only offering a free breakie, for locals who want to make their way to the start line at 6am to cheer on the riders, but are also providing a FREE 100m kiddie commando course, coordinated by local PT superstar Mel Bingley. Perfect to test the skills and sporting agility of the communities' kiddies.
Jane Chapman, event manager from the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce said, "The exciting, fun-filled, family event is free to locals of all ages and I'm encouraging everyone to dressed in up in RED WHITE and BLUE, show their support for this amazing event and try to win one of the 'best dressed' prizes."
Jane says "The VELOTHON BIG BREAKIE is the perfect opportunity for the Caloundra community to get together and taste a complimentary breakfast from some of our most popular breakfast businesses. The Pocket, BRKFST and Moffat Beach Brewing Co are all running their own pop up breakfast bars and the coffee will be flowing. Add to the free breakie, the 100m kiddie commando course, live music, free bouncy castle, face painting and sunshine and you have a unique and fun family morning at one of the Sunshine Coast's most beautiful beaches. Don't forget to keep your eyes open for special mascot appearances from Sea Life's Sharkey, Aussie World's Tilly and Jake, the Big Kart Track and Australia Zoo."
SEA FM will be around too, hosting a roadshow and featuring a BIG, local competition with prizes for the best dressed business and school. Jane says, "Be sure to dress up your business or school and post your red white and blue Velothon pictures on the SEA FM website for your chance to win."
