The newest event on the Coast is hoping to raise $20,000 to support an expanded Lymphoedema Service. The first goal is the purchase of an L-Dex machine, a vital piece of equipment that assists in the management of this common complication of cancer.
A thousand people are expected to join the Bendigo Bank team participating in a range of walking and running events up the length of Ballinger Road on Sunday 14 June. The event will start at 8.00am and will conclude in the forested gardens of Bloomhill Cancer Care where a festival atmosphere will continue through the day.
Bloomhill Cancer Care, which has assisted thousands of people with therapy, counselling and transport now needs support from the Sunshine Coast community to help establish its new Lymphoedema Service.
Bloomhill general manager Mervat Quirke said the new service was greatly needed.
"The lymphoedema service helps people who experience chronic secondary swelling as a result of interruption to the flow of lymph fluid. Lymphoedema may result in loss of mobility, discomfort and pain and may significantly affect people's quality of life," said Ms Quirke.
