2016 Queensland Small Business Week goes to the regions

Released By:

Small Business Minister Leeanne Enoch said this year's Queensland Small Business Week (16-21 May) host events in Cairns, Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Toowoomba.

"The Palaszczuk Government wants to inspire and empower small businesses to grow and realise the benefits of collaboration, which is central to our Advance Queensland plan for jobs now and jobs for the future," Ms Enoch said.

"Small business is such an intrinsic part of life in regional towns and communities with almost 30 per cent of the state's small business in regional Queensland.

"With more than 406,000 small businesses in Queensland that means 121,500 are in our regions: these businesses have the potential to have a big impact on local economies.

"These regional events will complement our government-hosted Brisbane and Logan program."

Minister Enoch said the government-hosted events, workshops and training sessions centre around themes of collaboration and partnerships; innovation and entrepreneurship; identifying and seizing opportunities; and preparing for digital disruption.

"We want Queensland to be the state known as the place for small business to start, grow and employ," Minister Enoch said.

"I'm excited about helping small businesses create opportunities from challenges and encouraging innovation.

"Through Queensland Small Business Week and the Palaszczuk Government's $180 million Advance Queensland initiative we are providing the support small firms need to get ahead, and translate their innovative ideas into new or improved products and services."
